  18. If you have an Adaptec 1542C SCSI adapter card installed, Windows NT
  19. hangs when running NTDetect or AutoCheck, and MS-DOS hangs while
  20. processing the CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
  21.  
  22. RESOLUTION
  23. ==========

  25. A modification by Adaptec is required to resolve this problem. If your
  26. Adaptec board has not been modified, you will need to contact Adaptec
  27. to have the 1542C board altered.
  28.  
  29. To determine if the Adaptec 1542C has been modified, pull the card and
  30. look for one of the following:
  31.  
  32.  - On the solder side of the card toward the external SCSI connector,
  33.    if there are jumper wires, the card has been modified.
  34.  
  35.  - The label on the VLSI chip has three sets of numbers. If the middle
  36.    row of numbers has a "D" suffix, the card has been modified.
  37.
